Lepakshi - NagaLingam


Lepakshi, a small village in Andhra Pradesh state, is known for its archaeological wonders.
Following painting is inspired from one such wonder.
The Serpent in the painting is believed to be carved from a single stone.

Mandalam

This one's inspired by Buddhist Mandalam and the Boudhanath Stupa structure of Nepal..

The original Mandalam is a more complex form.

Some of the features of the mandalam:

  • The outer circle represents the great protective circle that radiates the Mandala's infinite colorful light.
  • 64 lotus petals represent the purified state of mind.
  • Centre- Buddha of Compassion (usually represented by lotus flower)
The Astamangala symbols which are the teaching tools:
  1. Palbhan (Endless Knot) - signifies Knowledge and Compassion
  2. Pema (Lotus) - signifies purity of mind
  3. Gyaltsen or Dhvaja (Victorious banner) - Banner of victory of Dharma over Evil
  4. Choekyi Khorlo or Dharmachakra (Wheel of Dharma) - Eternally turning and churning blessings
  5. Bhumpa (Vase) - Akshaypatra - a never ending source of good health, wealth, long life and prosperity
  6. Sernya (Golden Fish) - signifies the plain and transcendental truth
  7. Dug (Parasol) - Shields one from miseries and evil forces of the world
  8. Dhunkar (White Conch) - Awakens one from ignorance to the path of truth and noble deeds
